The position will be located in the World Humanitarian Summit secretariat, in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in New York. The Public Information Intern will work within the communications team of the World Humanitarian Summit secretariat and ultimately report to the Communications and Advocacy Officer.
Responsibilities: The Public Information Intern will be responsible for the following duties:
- Supports production of a diverse range of communications and information products;
- Supports WHS social media channels;
- Assists with managing WHS’ online community of digital volunteers;
- Support content management of the WHS website and blog;
- Undertake other communication and outreach efforts in support of the WHS.
Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
- Public information officers, operations staff and other specialists and managers in WHSS, UNOCHA and the UN system.
Results Expected:
Provides inputs for WHS social media channels, website and blog, including identifying photographs and stories from OCHA’s database; regularly updates social media content guides; regularly interacts with WHS digital volunteers and provides support to them as needed; uses own networks to promote the WHS; uploads content to the WHS website; updates database of WHS related articles and media mentions; other duties as requires.

Qualifications:
Education: The intern must be currently enrolled in a University programme of study.
Experience: Previous experience in public information, public relations, international relations, public administration or related area, especially within humanitarian organizations and contexts, would be an asset.
Language: Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Other: Experience working within humanitarian organizations and contexts would be an advantage.
