This internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is located in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Information Management Branch, Digital Services Section, New York. The incumbent will report to a Communications Officer/Information Management Officer.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
The Digital Services Section is looking for a Digital Communications and Marketing Intern to integrate our team for the period of the Internship. He/she will be helping to promote the content of various information platforms. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• supports the team on different projects from proposal to implementation;
• helps monitor and manage social media accounts;
• identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities and approaches, taking into account the situation/topic and target audience;
• researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources on assigned topics/issues;
• helps draft or compiles information and communications products;
• helps gather social media and web analytics; designs social media cards and banners; performs other tasks as requested by the supervisor.
The ideal candidate should have strong analytical skills, be passionate about new media, humanitarian affairs and new communications tools and trends; and of course, be committed to the humanitarian principles and aware of the latest humanitarian issues.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Program, the following conditions must be met:
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
• Be computer literate in standard software applications;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the program.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN Official language, especially Spanish, is an advantage.
