Background
This position located in the OCHA Regional Office for the Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) in Panama.
OCHA supports the coordination of the humanitarian activities in the region working in collaboration with government authorities, NGOs, international organizations, UN agencies and other partners to promote international standards and best practices aiming to improve the quality of the humanitarian actions in benefit to population in need.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Graphic Designer will respond to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally, working with different sources and different formats of information.
Within delegated authority, the Graphic Designer will be mainly responsible for designing information products:
- Develop and design maps, graphics, templates and tables;
- Ensure stylistic consistency and uphold OCHA corporate visual identity guidelines;
- Keep updated graphics, figures and maps delivered by the office on information products;
- Collaborate with the OCHA ROLAC and Redhum application developers on the creation of new visual interfaces and displays that facilitates users reading and assimilation of information;
- Suggest and create innovative ideas for print, web and interactive presentations;
- Lay-out recurrent reports in close collaboration with information assistants;
- Maintain templates (Word, PowerPoint etc.…) following OCHA style guidelines;
- Create brochures, business cards, information folders, publications, and other similar promotional materials;
- Design themes, layouts, contents and covers for OCHA ROLAC office and projects;
- Participate in video productions and photo library projects, suggesting visual and graphic solution to make final products more creative and attractive to the audience;
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or Head of the Office.
Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
The Graphic Design will report to the Information Management Officer and will work in close collaboration with the Humanitarian Affairs Officers from the Emergency Preparedness Unit and the Redhum Representatives located in other countries.
The Graphic Designer may also interact with staff members from other OCHA offices abroad, consultants, corporate partners, NGOs, donors and UN agencies.

- Technological Awareness: Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, PowerPoint or equivalent, graphics software, tables and databases, Internet, etc.
- Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
- Work under pressure: During emergency phases, the Graphic Designer is expecting to work under pressure to delivery information products within a reduced timeframe and is also expected to work longer hours depending on the requirements of the emergency.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Secondary education or bachelor´s degree in graphic design, communications, public relations or related fields.
Experience:
- Candidates with secondary education, five (5) years of experience as graphic designer is required.
- Candidates with bachelor´s degree in graphic design, communications, public relations or related fields; two (2) years of experience as graphic designer is required.
- Experience and advanced knowledge in handling of Design software such as Adobe Suit (CS6) (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, In Design, etc.).
Language requirements:
- Fluency in oral and written Spanish and English.
Other Skills:
- Ability to work productively under pressure, cope with deadlines, and the technical ability to work with online forms and systems.
